A trip to one of Australia’s world-famous wine regions is about more than just a top-notch glass of wine. From sweeping countryside views and outdoor sculpture gardens to scenic bike trails, farm-to-table dining and luxury vineyard stays, there are endless reasons to turn your day trip into a long weekend getaway.

If finding the best place to rest your head after a big day of tasting is top of mind, the Barossa Valley is calling. Located just 60 kilometres northeast of Adelaide, this ancient South Australian wine region is home to The Louise – crowned Oceania’s Leading Wine Region Hotel at the World Travel Awards 2026.

Surrounded by lavender and vines, The Louise is arguably the Barossa’s most luxurious base. This upscale property features 15 private vineyard-facing suites fitted with walk-in robes, marble ensuites, two-person spa baths, gas log fireplaces and private terraces with outdoor rain showers. Beyond your suite, you can unwind by the infinity pool, dine at the award-winning Appellation, or immerse yourself in curated regional experiences, including winemaker workshops, artist talks and scenic flights.

Of course, plenty of wine is on the agenda. Guests can discover boutique Barossa drops in the walk-in Aladdin’s Cave wine cellar, enjoy sunset drinks overlooking the vines, take advantage of the complimentary in-suite bar, or join excursions to beloved Barossa wineries like Torbreck, Elderton Wines and Henschke.

The Louise clinched the title of Oceania’s Leading Wine Region Hotel from Mount Lofty House in the Adelaide Hills, which was named a runner-up alongside two other top Australian properties: Basalt Retreat along the Great Ocean Road and Hunter Valley Resort. Mt Michael Lodge and Takatu Lodge & Vineyard in New Zealand were the final two nominees.

For 33 years, the World Travel Awards have honoured leading destinations, attractions, hotels and airlines across various continents. Nominees are shortlisted through a vetted entry process or official commendations, with winners chosen by a worldwide online vote. General public votes carry a weight of one, while verified travel professionals hold double the voting power. You can discover more Oceania winners for 2026 here.
