Located in the Parc de la Citudella, the Barcelona Zoo is a great place to have fun with the whole family. This decently sized zoo is home to more than 100 different types of animals, including incredible lions and enormous turtles from the Galapagos islands who can live up to 100 years. Other favourites include the prehistoric rhino, the adorable red panda, and the odd bird that is the ostrich. The zoo also offers wonderful shows that display the full majesty of these amazing creatures. You can watch arguably the kindest members of the animal kingdom, the elephants, go through their training; you can see the penguins at feeding time; or you can observe dolphins swimming and simply loving life. For the younger kids, there’s a farm animal exhibition and two fantastic playgrounds where they can run around to their hearts' content. Bear in mind that on hot days, most animals are going to want to relax in the shade and if it gets too cold, many are kept inside where it’s nice and warm.
The money you spend here doesn’t just go to the zoo. Since 2009, they have invested over €1.5 million in 110 research and conservation programmes and 30 percent of animals born here have been released into their natural habitat. This is the zoo's way of making sure that future generations can continue to be amazed by the same animals.
