Cape Town’s biggest rugby party is about to get a whole lot cheaper.

HSBC SVNS Cape Town tickets are returning to pre-pandemic prices, starting at R180 when sales open at 9am on Friday, 2 October.

With the Blitzboks chasing a third consecutive Cape Town title, this is one weekend where your FOMO could be doing more tackling than the players.

The action returns to DHL Stadium on Saturday 5 and Sunday, 6 December, bringing two days of fast, furious sevens rugby to the Mother City. The Blitzboks arrive as reigning HSBC SVNS Series and World Champions, having already secured back-to-back Cape Town titles.

Now they have another piece of silverware in their sights.

And SA Rugby has clearly decided that fans deserve a little more bang for their buck.

Rugby without the wallet tackle

Ticket prices have been cut by between 17% and 28%, depending on the category.

The cheapest option, Category D, comes in at R180 for unreserved seating in the second tier. Want to be closer to the action? Category C is R280, Category B is R380, while Category A costs R500 for lower-tier seats around halfway.

Finally, an option for most budgets. No need to execute a financial Hail Mary to watch a few rugby legends sprint around a pitch.

The move comes as SA Rugby looks to pack the stadium once again for what has become one of Cape Town’s unofficial starts to summer. And it’s about more than rugby.

The HSBC SVNS weekend is famous for its colourful costumes, music, food, entertainment and supporters who interpret “dress for the occasion” extremely creatively.

Can the Blitzboks make it three?

They certainly have history on their side.

Last December, the Blitzboks produced a dramatic comeback against Argentina to win the Cape Town final 21-19, securing their second consecutive title.

Earlier that day, they had edged France 22-17 in a tense semi-final, with Shilton van Wyk crossing twice before Ryan Oosthuizen delivered the late score that booked their place in the final.

Now the home side is back, the stakes are higher, and the target is obvious: three in a row.

Expect Cape Town to bring the noise!

Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday, 2 October. Fans are urged to use official sales channels to avoid ticket scammers.

So, dust off the fancy dress, round up the rugby crew and get ready to scrum for tickets. At R180, there’s no need to kick this one into touch.
