Of all the refitted fin-de-siècle confections on Opatija’s shore, perhaps the Mozart is most true to the genre. Behind a striking façade of art-nouveau curves and sea-facing balconies, 26 rooms of equal style echo the grandeur of the period. There’s enough room for a cosmetic studio and piano bar, and meals can be taken in a pretty courtyard. The Hotel Mozart Piano Bar has a stunning interior, with art-nouveau style stained glass, Biedermeier-striped furniture and a piano, where local talents play pleasing background music while you have coffee and cake or slam back vodkas and imagine you’re a Habsburg.
