Things to do in Delhi this week

Long before Baroda became synonymous with Indian modern art, K.G. Subramanyan was already pointing to Gujarat’s outsized role in shaping the country’s cultural landscape. There was just one thing missing: an art school. So when the Faculty of Fine Arts at Maharaja Sayajirao University was founded in 1950, it had a rare opportunity to start from scratch. This exhibition traces how that experiment unfolded, and how its ripples travelled far beyond.

Expect a lively mix of paintings, sculptures, mixed-media works, prints and photographs, alongside archival material from the DAG collection. Together, they offer both the big picture and the behind-the-scenes story: the school’s teaching, friendships, debates and everyday shenanigans that made Baroda such a creative hotbed.

Some artists pushed the possibilities of material and form. Others developed abstract languages shaped by surface, landscape and place. Still others turned to figuration, bringing together the intensely personal and the unapologetically political.

Appurv Gupta is back with a brand-new stand-up show, most probably packed with his quirky observations, middle-class nostalgia, and stories about everyday life. Popularly known as GuptaJi, Appurv Gupta brings his trademark storytelling by drawing from his own family drama and his engineering flashbacks. After millions of views on previous sets including Mobile Phone, Chai Maggi, and Engineering, Gupta has gained the trust of his audiences for getting plenty of relatable laughs. Yes, he’s very ‘relatable’.

Expect a clean set with no dirty undertones or abuses, making it ideal for families. The show runs for around 90 minutes and is in Hindi. Since the show runs for a week, you have plenty of time to catch it.

While Daahab Chishti combine playful storytelling and an energetic stage presence. Her comedy explores the quirks and absurdities of ordinary life that turn familiar experiences into engaging and unexpected punchlines. With a relaxed yet expressive style, Daahab connects with audiences through humour that is contemporary, relatable, and entertaining.

The live music band, The One Note, will be performing at the XO Studio this weekend. Their independent live music rose to fame, especially after their reinterpreting of emotional and rhythmic anthems like Yee Fitoor Mera and Pyaar Hota Kayi Baar Hai. The band is based out of New Delhi, India, and is known for their contemporary takes on beloved Bollywood tracks. The group has successfully leveraged digital platforms like Instagram to cultivate their own fanbase. Their music is a blend of raw instrumental energy and polished vocals, making them a staple in northern India’s bustling nightlife and university circuits.

The band's distinctive style relies on a highly coordinated lineup consisting of: lead vocalist Dushyant Banswal, guitarist Shashank Rathore, bass guitarist Vineet Massey, and drummer Ashish. All of them are all tied together by the production, mixing, and mastering of Pinaank.
