Join a Chelsea Pensioner for a tour of the Wellington Hall Museum, available to book from February 2026.
With over 330 years of proud history, the Royal Hospital Chelsea stands as a retirement home and heritage site unlike any other. Nestled within 66 acres of beautiful grounds, it is home to a remarkable community of retired veterans from across the UK, united by shared values, service, and camaraderie.
Commissioned by King Charles II for soldiers no longer able to serve due to age or infirmity, the Royal Hospital has grown into a place of belonging and national pride. Today, nearly 300 Chelsea Pensioners call it home, veterans living life to the fullest in a community built on respect and support.
Visitors can book a guided tour, led by a Chelsea Pensioner easily recognised by their iconic scarlet coat. Our guides share fascinating stories about life at the Hospital and its centuries of history, offering an experience as educational as it is inspiring.
Visit the Great Hall and Wren Chapel, both rich in art, artefacts, and centuries of military history. Take a moment in Figure Court, home to the statue of King Charles II, a reminder of the Hospital’s royal origins. The surrounding Ranelagh Gardens and South Grounds also provide a beautiful setting for major events such as the Chelsea Flower Show.
Explore the newly renovated Soane Stable Yard, home to our free museum, interactive exhibits, and Heidi Bakery, the perfect spot for coffee and conversation.
Find out more on the Royal Hospital Chelsea website, including details of the upcoming events and activities.
