Londoners might not have got a white Christmas, but it looks as though 2026 could kick off with a blast of snow for parts of the UK. And that includes the capital.

Snow is notoriously hard to predict, but some early forecasts for this weekend (January 3-4) are saying that temperatures in the capital city could fall below freezing, accompanied by a flurry of the white stuff. So, prepare to wrap up, slip on your wellies and (maybe) dust off that toboggan.

Here’s what forecasters are saying.

When will it snow in London this week?

The BBC predicts that temperatures will drop as low as -1C on the weekend, with light snowfall expected between 8am and 11am on Saturday January 3. Then another smattering of snow is forecast for 8pm on Saturday until 3am on Sunday morning.

The Met Office hasn’t forecast snow specifically for London yet, but in its long range forecast from January 2-11 it says that ‘there are likely to be some more coherent bands of rain, sleet and snow working south, and these may bring a risk of more prolonged wintry precipitation affecting some inland areas’. It predicts ‘wintry showers’ on both Saturday and Sunday.

Where will it snow in London this week?

It’s not clear whether one part of the city will get more snow than other parts.

How much snow will fall?

Right now, there isn’t an exact prediction for how many inches of snow we can expect, but forecasters say that there will only be light snowfall.

How will transport be impacted?

There’s been no weather warnings issued for the weekend in London, so disruption to transport from snowfall is likely to be minimal. That may change closer to the weekend, though. See our guide for general public transport disruption across London this week.
