Several locations around the city are closing as hundreds are shuttered nationwide

Starbucks announced it is shutting down hundreds of stores nationwide, and at least 20 of them are in Greater Los Angeles. Here's which stores are on the list.
Seven of the shuttered Starbucks line Wilshire Boulevard alone, where long commutes and mid-day caffeine fixes have made the chain a fixture. In Monrovia, at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Myrtle Avenue, a paper sign taped to the door broke the news to regulars on Friday. In Redlands, the Starbucks at Citrus Plaza is also shuttered last weekend. More closures across SoCal are expected, though Starbucks won’t say exactly how many.

The company says this is all part of a bigger overhaul. In a message to employees, CEO Brian Niccol described the closures as part of a restructuring meant to “revitalize the brand” and deliver a cozier, more welcoming vibe. This means underperforming locations and locations that don't deliver the intended Starbucks experience will close.
For employees, the impact is immediate. Some baristas are being offered transfers to nearby locations, others will be laid off. Along with the retail closures, Starbucks is cutting about 900 non-store jobs nationwide—roles that handle the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the brand running.
If your neighborhood Starbucks is suddenly dark this weekend, you’ll probably find another one a few blocks away, but for the employees and communities losing their local store, the closures hit harder than just losing a daily caffeine fix.
