After breaking records with the launch of its first Aussie drive-thru in Dandenong South, the American burger chain has confirmed another location in Melbourne

When American-born burger chain Wendy’s opened its first Australian drive-thru in Dandenong South earlier this year, burger enthusiasts of Victoria went wild. The launch made history as the highest-performing opening day and opening week in Wendy’s global history, according to the brand. Now, the chain is banking on that appetite for square burgers and frozen-dessert-style treats to keep its Australian expansion rolling – with Wendy’s opening its fourth Australian restaurant in Seaford on Wednesday, October 28.
Located at 300 Frankston–Dandenong Road, the new restaurant will be Wendy’s second Melbourne drive-thru, following the record-breaking opening of its Dandenong South location.
For the uninitiated, Wendy’s is best known for its square beef patties, fresh, never frozen beef and its signature Frosty, a thick frozen dessert that sits somewhere between a milkshake and soft serve. The Seaford restaurant will serve the full menu, including burgers made with 100 per cent Australian beef, hand-breaded chicken tenders and loaded fries. There’s also the Baconmater, an Australian-exclusive burger featuring two quarter-pound beef patties, crispy bacon, cheese, ketchup and mayo on a toasted brioche-style bun. Yum.
But according to the team, Wendy’s is hoping to stand out for more than what’s between the buns. Its drive-thru format sees crew members meet customers in the lane, take orders on handheld tablets and confirm them on screen, rather than relying on the traditional speaker box.
“Melbourne didn’t politely ask for more Wendy’s. It made itself impossible to ignore,” said Corina Black, chief marketing officer of Wendy’s ANZ. Based on the number of Time Out readers who clicked on the story we wrote about the launch, we’d have to agree.
And Wendy’s isn’t stopping with Seaford. The beloved burger chain aims to open 200 restaurants across Australia over the next decade, with each new location expected to create more than 140 crew positions, according to the company.
Wendy’s Seaford opens on Wednesday, October 28, at 300 Frankston–Dandenong Road, Seaford. See you in the queue.
