This New Year's Eve, ditch the car and leave it to Miami-Dade to get around. The Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works has announced extended transit service for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, with later hours on Metrorail and Metromover and adjusted schedules across the system. That means fewer Ubers, less traffic and one less excuse to leave the party early.

On New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, December 31, both Metrorail and Metromover will run until 2am on January 1. The Green and Orange Line trains will operate every 30 minutes. If you’re heading to the festivities downtown, note that the final northbound and southbound Metrorail trains will depart from Government Center at around 2am. After that, stations will only be open for exiting, not entry.

Metrobus and MetroConnect service will run on a regular weekday schedule throughout the day and night, so bus riders won’t see any major changes. For those driving to a Metrorail station before hopping on the train, parking garages will stay open until 3am on January 1.

On New Year’s Day, Thursday, January 1, Metrorail and Metromover will switch to a weekend schedule, while Metrobus and MetroConnect will operate on a Sunday timetable. Even though Miami-Dade County offices will be closed for the holiday, Special Transportation Services won’t be affected. STS riders can still book or cancel trips as usual by calling the reservation line at (305) 871-1111.

While administrative and customer service offices for DTPW will be closed on January 1, the transit system itself will be up and running, just at reduced holiday hours. Parking facilities at Metrorail stations will remain open into the early hours of the day, closing at 3am.

As you plan your night bouncing between parties, consider public transportation for the easiest way to get around. For real-time updates, route planning and service alerts, check the DTPW website before heading out.
