It’s official: Cirque du Soleil is bringing a new big top show to Montréal.

A surrealist troupe of artists, a very sensible farmer and a quiet farm that’s about to get a whole lot stranger: Cirque du Soleil is bringing a brand-new Big Top production to Montréal next spring.

The announcement was made in the former Hudson's Bay Company in Downtown Montreal. Titled Finding Utopia (or L’éveil D’utopia in French), the immersive show will make its world premiere in Montréal’s Old Port on April 22, 2027, before heading to Place des Festivals Zibi in Gatineau on September 5, 2027.

Written and directed by Michel Laprise, the production follows Marguerite, a farmer whose comfortable, predictable life is turned upside down when a troupe of surrealist artists arrives at her doorstep.

As the artists disrupt her routine, her farm transforms into a world where the rules of logic, gravity and movement no longer seem to apply.

The result promises a blend of Cirque du Soleil’s signature acrobatics, imaginative storytelling, larger-than-life characters and an evolving environment designed to draw audiences into the action.

What is Cirque du Soleil about?

Finding Utopia is Cirque du Soleil’s 21st Big Top creation, bringing the company’s history of street theatre and unconventional circus arts back to its Québec roots. The production takes inspiration from Les Échassiers de Baie-Saint-Paul, the troupe of stilt-walkers, jugglers and fire-breathers that helped lay the foundations for Cirque du Soleil in the early 1980s.

The new show will feature nine distinct acrobatic acts, including a groundbreaking combination of Icarian Games—an acrobatic discipline in which performers propel one another through the air using their feet—and teeterboard. An original score blending unexpected musical styles will accompany the performances as the farm itself changes throughout the story.

Is Cirque du Soleil permanent in Montreal?

The show’s Montréal premiere will take place under the Big Top in the Old Port beginning April 22, 2027. In September, the production will move to Place des Festivals Zibi in Gatineau, bringing the new experience to audiences across the Ottawa–Gatineau region.

The production is currently in rehearsal at Cirque du Soleil’s international headquarters in Montréal, with staging scheduled to begin in January 2027. The company is expected to move to the Old Port in March to complete preparations under the Big Top ahead of opening night.

How to get tickets

Club Cirque members and subscribers to the show’s waitlist have access to an exclusive presale beginning October 20, 2026. General ticket sales open Monday, October 26, 2026.
