Leitao came to Greenwich Village in 2020, bringing the flavors, foods, and traditions of northern Portugal to New York. And part of that tradition is the story of Fado.
Fado, also known as the "Lisbon Blues," is a type of folk music, characterized by love, loss, and wanting. Each month, Leitao hosts an intimate evening dedicated to the Portuguese genre: Fado Night. Held in the restaurant's candlelit basement, the night centers on Fado, with a live band of singers playing right at the foot of your table. To complete the immersive experience, a four-course meal is served, cycling through staples of Portuguese cuisine such as octopus carpaccio with linguica, little neck clams sautéed with a mix of spicy salami, nduja, and chorizo, and sirloin steak in a garlic sauce. Each course comes with a pairing of Portuguese wines from around the region.
Generally held monthly, the next Fado Nights will be held on October 14, November 11, and December 9, starting at 8pm. Tickets start at $165 for side seating, with a slightly obstructed view, and $220 for prime seating. Reserve your tickets on Resy.
