Christmas is all about the classics, and nothing is more traditional and essential to the holiday season than one of ballet’s most iconic masterpieces, The Nutcracker. Performed at Esplanade Theatre, the production is presented by the renowned Australian ballet company BIG Live. It promises to bring the festive cheer that’ll delight and captivate viewers of all ages.
Paired with the charm of Tchaikovsky’s score, the fantastical ballet based on German author E.T.A. Hoffmann’s popular novella is as follows: a young girl named Clara is gifted a nutcracker doll, which magically comes to life on Christmas Eve. The duo then go on a mission to defeat the evil Mouse King and later meet with the enchanting Sugar Plum Fairy. Expect breathtaking costumes, lush set pieces and impressive choreography as you get swept away to the magical Land of the Sweets.
