Calling all cinephiles, Letterboxd geeks and everyone in between: this year’s Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) is back, and it’s happening earlier than usual. Instead of the usual late-November schedule, the annual programme kicks off in October, with over 100 selections from more than 50 countries, including Mexico, Hong Kong and Czechoslovakia.
The festival opens with Hur Jin-ho’s latest historical blockbuster, The Assassin(s), starring Lee Min-ho, Yoo Hae-jin and Park Hae-il. The South Korean director is set to appear for the premiere alongside supporting cast members Shim Eun-kyung and Park Sung-hoon. Other notable highlights on the lineup are Singapore Panorama, featuring 16 homegrown shorts, and Standpoint, a series of thought-provoking films.
Junior film buffs aren’t going to miss out either. For the first time, SGIFF 2026 presents Junior Explorers, a special programme featuring three kid-friendly movies that explore familial connection. These sensory-friendly screenings are curated to create a more comfortable big-screen experience for a younger audience. Among the titles is the Chilean animation Brave Cat, which follows a band of courageous forest animals on a mission to find abducted creatures.
