Do you love popcorn? The correct and only answer is an unequivocal YES.

If you’ve ever whet your whistle at Bar Planet (hello, all of Sydney), Centro 86 or Tio’s, chances are you’ve noshed on a bowl of their moreish flavoured popcorn. As the saying goes, once you pop you truly can’t stop.

In honour of International Popcorn Day (should be a public holiday imho), earlier this year, the team at Mucho Group – the masterminds behind Bar Planet, Centro 86 and Tio’s, as well as Cantina OK! and Bar Herbs – shared three recipes for their beloved popcorn snacks.

After growing pressure from the community – which has included an entire subreddit devoted to how much patrons love the Bar Planet free popcorn – the recipes have been released into the wild for all to love and consume.

So without further ado:

Bar Planet popcorn recipe

  • 4 x parts curry powder
  • 2 x parts salt
  • 2 x parts sugar
  • 1 x part MSG

Centro 86 popcorn recipe

  • 10 x parts sugar
  • 10 x parts salt
  • 2 x parts sumac
  • 1 x part citric acid
  • 1 x part chilli powder

Tio’s popcorn recipe

  • 2 x parts cumin powder
  • 2 x parts smoked paprika
  • 2 x parts sweet paprika
  • 2 x parts chicken salt
  • 2 x parts fine salt
  • 1 x part sugar
  • 1 x part chilli powder

These recipes will level up your next dinner party or friends’ catch-up. Or, you could take a secret stash with you to the cinema – just a casual suggestion!

Having said that, the team have revealed that they’re not at liberty to share Bar Herbs’ secret seasoning that goes on all of their popcorn recipes. That one you’ll have to pry from their cold, dead hands.
