Charbroiled Angus beef burgers, chilli cheese fries and satisfyingly thick milkshakes are among the reasons why this California-born chain has been able to prosper on the American fast food battlefield for well over half a century now. Carl's Jr made an unsuccessful Japanese invasion way back in 1989, but is now giving it another shot – undoubtedly attracted by Tokyo's overflowingly diverse burger scene and eager to keep up with the likes of fellow quality-first chain Shake Shack. Look out for their first outpost in Akihabara.
