Tree-mendous Christmas

Dreamlight Hotel Festive Tree at The Tokyo Edition

This year, The Tokyo Edition hotels in Toranomon and Ginza are celebrating the season with Dreamlight Hotel, a pair of show-stopping holiday tree installations dreamed up by acclaimed art director Yuni Yoshida and sustainable design brand 130 (OneThirty), known for 3D printing with renewable materials.

Playing on the cheeky theme of ‘a hotel within a hotel’, the work features miniature glowing guestrooms stacked to form the shape of a tree. Every detail is carefully considered: the windows are artfully arranged to resemble rows of illuminations, while tiny touches – like a cat in the window and Santa’s sleigh perched on the roof – add to its charm.

The two trees share the same concept but each one has subtle, hotel-specific differences that make it even more fun to compare them in person. The tree at Toranomon will be on display until January 4, while the Ginza version can be seen until December 25. As in previous years, sustainability is at the forefront of the project. The trees are made from materials such as recycled PET, PETG and resin. After dismantling, all materials will be shredded and recycled.

Additionally, those visiting The Tokyo Edition, Toranomon can also enjoy a very special Dreamlight Hotel Afternoon Tea made in collaboration with Yuni Yoshida. The afternoon tea is available until January 20 and reservations can be made online.

Christmas Tree at White Kitte

The iconic central atrium of Marunouchi’s Kitte shopping complex is anchored by a real 13-metre fir Christmas tree, now sporting an elegant, understated makeover. This year’s display surrounds the tree with over 100 metres of silvery-white LED grass that shimmers and pulses in sync with the lights above. From 12.10pm to 9.53pm daily, the tree also glows in white and purple hues accompanied by a gentle musical soundtrack.

As far as indoor illumination shows in Tokyo go, this one at Omotesando Hills ranks among the more impressive, highlighted by a 10-metre-tall Christmas tree made of over a thousand sparkling prisms and orbited by dancing rings of light. The stunning installation, displayed in front of the central staircase in the middle of the complex, is the creation of Emission, an art studio led by Takahiro Matsuo, an acclaimed art director specialising in prism art installations.

Around the tree is Matsuo’s Kinetic Light Vision (KLV), a ring of 48 spheres that move in sync with the music to create a striking light show of dancing rings with the Prism Tree. First unveiled at the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, KLV drew major attention and won the Gold Award in the Entertainment Space category at the Japan Space Design Awards.

Don't miss the special 3-minute light-up show held every 20 minutes from 11.20am to 10.20pm.
