Time Out says

Honouring Daikoku, the deity of fortune, this annual January celebration at Kanda Shrine attracts Tokyoites looking to secure a helping of good luck for the year ahead, and it also puts on a few interesting 'performances'.

The hocho-shiki ritual (12noon on Jan 18) sees a master of the cutting arts demonstrate some serious kitchen knife skills in chopping up fish, while a pre-Coming of Age classic will have 'new adults' soaked in cold water (10am on Jan 17). Old-school festival music accompanies the action.
