Gen Z and families are eyeing two B.C. escapes for their next autumn getaway

Apparently, Vancouver Island is where fall plans are happening.
New Airbnb data has revealed some of Canada’s top trending domestic destinations for autumn 2026, and two Island towns have made the cut: Colwood and Parksville.
For Vancouverites craving a change of scenery after exploring the city’s best restaurants, neighbourhoods and attractions, consider this your excuse to hop over to the Island. Fall road trip, anyone?
Just west of Victoria, Colwood is one of the country’s top searched fall destinations among Gen Z travellers, who seem to be swapping big-city breaks for smaller places with seriously good scenery.
It’s not hard to see the appeal. Think oceanfront walks, Esquimalt Lagoon, the clifftop Fisgard Lighthouse and the grand gardens and grounds surrounding Hatley Castle.
Airbnb says searches for domestic fall trips among Canadian Gen Z travellers have jumped nearly 40 percent year over year, with small towns surrounded by dramatic landscapes proving especially popular.
Meanwhile, Parksville has landed among the top trending destinations for Canadian families this fall.
The laid-back seaside town is famous for its enormous beaches and remarkably far-reaching low tides, while nearby Cathedral Grove delivers the full old-growth-forest experience. And yes, the goats on the roof at Coombs Old Country Market remain an essential part of any Island road trip.
Family searches for domestic fall getaways are also up nearly 40 percent compared with last year, according to Airbnb.
With beaches, forests and plenty of small-town charm on the other side of the Strait, Vancouver Island is making a pretty convincing case for one last fall escape before winter kicks in.
