Vancouver is very good at Korean food. And we’re not just talking about barbecue, although there’s plenty of glorious meat-meets-tabletop-grill action happening around town.

The city’s Korean dining scene covers old-school comfort food, specialist soup shops, pocha-style late-night eating, fried chicken, polished contemporary restaurants and ambitious chefs giving familiar flavours entirely new wardrobes. Recent openings have made the field even more interesting, while longtime favourites continue to prove exactly why they’ve lasted.

Whether you’re chasing a restorative bowl of gomtang, exceptional galbi or chicken with a crunch audible from the next table, start here.

Zoomak Korean Tavern

Zoomak translates roughly to an old Korean tavern, and this Gastown favourite delivers exactly the convivial energy that suggests. Come for spicy seafood stew, makgeolli-steamed shellfish, bossam and galbi lettuce wraps; stay for cocktails and late-night snacks. Vancouver Magazine crowned it the city’s best Korean restaurant for 2026.

The beloved Tofino restaurant landed in Mount Pleasant in late 2025, bringing contemporary Korean cooking with serious West Coast polish. Gochujang-glazed fried chicken, octopus with aged kimchi and truffled bulgogi share the menu with a spectacular 35-day-aged galbi. This is Korean food dressed for a very good night out.

Nui proves comfort food can be quietly thrilling. Its specialty is gomtang: pork broth with rice and barley warmed using the traditional toryeom technique. Build around it with Hokkaido scallop crudo, pork-jowl sooyuk, seafood jeon or galbi over uni-butter rice. Vancouver Magazine gave Nui silver in its 2026 Korean awards.

Kook Korean BBQ Restaurant

Korean barbecue should feel like an event, and Kook understands the assignment. Prime beef, marinated galbi, pork collar and brisket hit smokeless tabletop grills, while every BBQ order arrives with a glorious spread of 15 banchan. Bring friends, order a combination and prepare to develop strong opinions about who gets the last short rib.

Sura Korean Royal Cuisine Restaurant Vancouver

For a more ceremonial Korean meal, Sura is the Robson Street grande dame. Its royal-cuisine approach shines in elaborate set menus featuring porridge, japchae, seafood pancakes, herbal bossam, galbi and more. Order à la carte or gather a group for the full procession: this is dinner as abundance, and then some.

So Hyang Korean Cuisine

So Hyang is the neighbourhood all-rounder you want within easy reach: generous, unfussy and especially good when a Korean-food craving refuses to be specific. Cold naengmyeon, sizzling bibimbap, bulgogi stew and soybean-paste jjigae all make convincing cases. The Fraser Street room is relaxed; the menu is enormous; everybody wins.

Marpole’s Keumsan specializes in the gentler pleasures of Korean comfort food, particularly sotbap cooked in individual pots. Choose abalone, eel or beef, then dig into the crisp rice at the bottom. The soft-tofu stews are equally compelling. Vancouver Magazine named this intimate newcomer an honourable mention among 2026’s best Korean restaurants.

Sumi Korean Restaurant

On Victoria Drive, Sumi is the kind of place where one craving rapidly becomes six. Jajangmyeon, spicy seafood jjambbong, gamjatang, seolleongtang and seafood pajeon share menu space with fried chicken and tangsuyuk. It’s approachable, comfort-forward Korean cooking, and Vancouver Magazine gave it an honourable mention in 2026.

JEON brings contemporary swagger to Davie Street without losing sight of Korean comfort. Kimchi arancini sits beside yukhoe, truffle japchae, house-made dumplings and woodae galbi, while the gomtang offers a quieter counterpoint. The room and cocktails make this a proper date-night option, but the fried chicken still knows how to party.

Come hungry, share everything and resist wearing the white shirt.
