Time Out says

Maitri Chit Road in Yaowarat holds on to plenty of its old buildings, and The Mustang Blu is one worth stopping for. Nearly a hundred years old, it started life as a hospital, then a hotel before converting into a rather salacious massage parlour and it doesn't bother hiding the fact. You can read the past on its walls – some of the original windows and in the chipped edges of the staircase up to the higher floors share their own stories too. Its new life as a hotel plays into its history, told through the furniture, the lighting and the sound that are all reminiscent of an old ‘Noodle Western’ film. Owner Joy Ananda keeps every room on the same theme and changes only the details, so no two look quite alike. The palette goes from white, grey and black through wood, mustard yellow, muted blue, brass and a little olive green. Music carries through the building, strongest in the ballroom but kept at an easy level.

Time Out tip: The building has no lift, so ask for a second-floor room if you're carrying heavy bags.

721 Maitri Chit Road. Open Monday-Sunday, 11am-8pm. Call 062 293 6191.
