Say what you want about the UK, but you can’t knock its scenery. And while there are lovely beaches, national parks and pretty villages dotted all over the country, Scotland’s islands boast some of the nation’s most beautiful spots.
There are more than 800 Scottish islands in total, making up about 10 percent of Europe’s entire coastline. And that sounds like a tonne, right? Thankfully, the Telegraph has just released a round-up of the 10 very best islands in Scotland, to make your isle-hopping a little smoother.
The first entry is the Isle of Skye, one of Scotland’s larger islands. There are plenty of sites to see on Skye, including the challenging but gorgeous hike to the Old Man of Storr, or paying a visit to the quaint little town of Portree. But Skye is a great spot for foodies, too, with Kinoch Lodge and Three Chimneys being some of the isle’s best restaurants, according to the Telegraph.
Orkney mainland is also included, and is home to UNESCO World Heritage listed Heart of Neolithic Orkney site, boasting a 5,000 year-old bridge, and Barra is mentioned as the place to go for drop-dead gorgeous beaches. Have a look at the full list below.
